NDDH2024's vision and mission are rooted in the establishment of an Open Innovation Model dedicated to in-silico drug discovery targeting the implicated receptors associated with Neurodegenerative disorders. Our mission encompasses a comprehensive approach to drug discovery, encompassing various critical processes including in silico screening of molecules, lead optimisation, and the identification of drugable, non-toxic targets. The endeavours undertaken through NDDH2024 are poised to yield significant advancements in our understanding of potential therapeutic avenues against neurological disorders.

The targets, tools, and lead molecules discerned through the rigorous processes of NDDH2024 will be meticulously curated for further progression. Subsequent steps will entail synthesis and subsequent integration into routine drug discovery programs, facilitating the transition from conceptualisation to tangible therapeutic interventions.

Objective

"Catalyzing the discovery of pharmaceutical candidates targeting specific receptors implicated in neurodegenerative disorders through a comprehensive hackathon centered on in silico drug design. Subsequently, leveraging chemical synthesis methodologies and rigorous biological testing to validate and refine identified compounds."

Recognizing the inherent complexity and interdisciplinary nature of drug discovery, our approach embraces in silico methodologies to streamline and accelerate the process. In alignment with the principles of Open Innovation, we adopt a collaborative strategy where intricate tasks are deconstructed into manageable assignments, fostering broad community participation. The hackathon will commence with the formulation of specific challenges or problem statements, inviting teams from around the world to engage in solution-oriented endeavors. Progress will be systematically evaluated based on predefined endpoints, guiding the advancement of successful teams to subsequent rounds. Through iterative refinement, solutions reaching designated milestones will proceed to higher levels of scrutiny until the identification of a lead molecule primed for extensive validation in experimental laboratory settings.

Hackathon Phases

The NDDH2024 will be conducted in 3 phases

Screening

The teams will engage in a competitive process to propose putative hits with significant potential. These proposed hits will undergo rigorous evaluation, with those demonstrating the highest promise being shortlisted for advancement to the next stage of the competition. This selection process ensures that only the most promising candidates proceed to subsequent phases, maximizing the likelihood of identifying novel therapeutic leads with substantial potential for further development.

Improvisation

During this phase, teams will engage in a competitive process to further refine and optimize the selected hits from phase 1. Through iterative refinement and innovation, teams will strive to enhance the performance and efficacy of the selected hits. The most successful and impactful improvised hits will be carefully shortlisted, paving the way for their utilization in the subsequent phase 3 challenge. This phase serves as a critical juncture for teams to demonstrate their ability to innovate and elevate the potential of the identified candidates for further evaluation and development.

Finalisation

In phase 3, teams will once again engage in a competitive process aimed at further optimizing the candidates identified in phase 2. The selected candidates for phase 3, having undergone three levels of screening and optimization, will undergo thorough evaluation. Upon completion of phase 3, the molecular hits will be formally announced. These findings will undergo further validation in laboratory settings through in vitro assays, followed by subsequent in vivo assessments. This finalization phase represents a crucial step in the progression of potential therapeutic candidates towards eventual clinical evaluation.
